Atiku vs Buhari: Supreme Court To Hear Atiku, PDP’s Appeal Today

The Supreme Court will today, Wednesday, hear the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar against the judgment of the presidential election petitions tribunal.

JNJGLOBALGIST.COM recalls that the Presidential Election Tribunal (PEPT) had dismissed the petition of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku, against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP and Atiku approached the Supreme Court to appeal the ruling of the Justice Mohammed Garba-led tribunal which affirmed President Buhari’s victory at the polls.

The PDP and aides to the former Vice President had raised concerns over the delay in naming judges to sit on the panel hearing the appeal.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday a senior member of Atiku’s legal team, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), said it was strange that the appellants do not know those that would constitute the panel.

He said: “It is strange, but we are prepared. For us, the Supreme Court is one. Ours is to go there and present our case and we believe they (court) will do justice in this matter. This matter is one that transcends party politics because it is a matter that will define future elections in the country.

“Also, it is a decision that the lower courts will now be guided by. So, we believe the Supreme Court will rise to the task notwithstanding who the individual members of the panel maybe.”

On his part, a senior member of President Buhari’s legal team, Dr Alex Izinyon (SAN), said the team is not particularly interested in knowing beforehand the justices of the court that would constitute the panel.
