1. 40 Million Nigerians Unemployed, 90 Million Living In Extreme Poverty – Buhari’s Minister

Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has revealed that over 40 million Nigerians are currently unemployed.

She made the worrying disclosure when she appeared before the House committee on women affairs and social development to defend the ministry’s 2020 budget proposal.

2. EFCC Raids INEC Office In Sokoto State

The Sokoto Zonal Office of the Economic Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, raided the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.

A source revealed that the commission raided the INEC office due to a petition written by an ad hoc staff, engaged for the conduct of the February 2019 elections, who accused the electoral body of not paying their allowances.

3. Reps To Investigate Onitsha Fire Outbreak

The House of Representatives has resolved that its committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness would investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire outbreak that claimed few lives and left many injured.

4. Governors Meet Finance Commissioners Over IGR

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Finance Commissioners met on Tuesday to discuss ways to increase tax collections to boost Internally Generated Revenues (IGR).

5. Oshiomhole’s Aggression Will Cost APC States – Sagay

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay, has said the aggression and approach of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, will make the party lose control of some states.

Prof Sagay, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), made this known while speaking to Daily Independent.

6. Shiites: Don’t Use Us To Cover Your Crimes In Sokoto, IMN Warns Air Force

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, has warned the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) not to use the name of the group to cover the alleged killing of innocent Nigerians in Sokoto State.

7. Buhari Nominates Justice Tosho As Federal High Court Judge

President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the name of Justice John Tsoho to the Senate for consideration and confirmation as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

8. Federal Government Set To Regulate Social Media – Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government on Tuesday, through the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, stated that it’s working on how to regulate social media.

Alhaji Mohammed stated this while speaking at a press conference in Abuja.

The minister disclosed that no responsible government would sit back and allow activities that are capable of destroying the country go unchecked.

9. Ohanaeze Denies Requesting Name Change For Nigeria

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization has distanced itself from the statement credited to the body urging President Muhammadu Buhari to move for a name change for Nigeria.

It will be recalled that while speaking on the danger of retaining the name Nigeria as the National name of the country, the deputy spokesman of the organization, Comrade Chuks Ibegbu in a statement on Monday, noted that the name, “Nigeria was given to us by a lover of Lord Lugard who later became his wife and was given at the heat of passion.

10. NLC Reacts To Nigeria Governors Forum Verdict On Minimum Wage Increment

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has rejected the increment agreement negotiation of the Federal Government with labour which is known as” consequential adjustment of Minimum Wage.”

According to the Governors, the negotiation with labour unions in the states will be based on the financial capability of each state.

11. Fake News: Nigeria To Regulate Social Media – Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the Federal Government is working to sanitise the social media which it said was currently out of control. Mohammed, at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, said no responsible government would sit back and not check the excesses of the internet.

12. Buhari Critic FFK Praises Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika

A staunch critic of President Muhammadu Buhari Femi Fani-Kayode has hailed the Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika, Fani-Kayode who is a former Minister of Aviation in a tweet on his handle, Monday, praised Sirika as one of the best in Buhari’s cabinet.

A Nigerian, Damilola Ogunbiyi, has been named as Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) to the Secretary-General of United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres. Also, she is now the and Co-Chair of United Nations-Energy.

14. What ASUU Said About Federal Government’s IPPIS

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has described the federal government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) as a scam. President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, disclosed this on Monday while addressing the leadership of the Senate at the National Assembly.

A Nigerian has been killed and two others injured in South Africa, just a few days after people from the West African country were attacked. The Spokesperson for Nigerian Union South Africa, Odefa Ikele, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos.

16. Enugu: Gunmen Kidnap Another Catholic Priest Arinze Madu

Some unknown gunmen have kidnapped a Catholic priest Reverend Father Arinze Madu in Enugu State on Monday. The abduction took place in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state. The victim is the Vice-Rector at the Queen of Apostles Seminary School in the Imezi-Owa area of Enugu State.

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate to confirm the appointment of nominees to the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The president made the request via a letter read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during Tuesday’s plenary session.

19. EFCC Arrests Mompha’s Accomplice In Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a Lebanese identified as Hamza Koudeih alleged to be an accomplice to Bureau De’ Change operator, Mompha. According to reports, Koudeih was arrested after a three-hour stand-off with EFCC operatives at his N1.8 billion luxury apartment in the 33-storey Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island, Lagos.

20. U-17 W/Cup: Golden Eaglets Zoom Into Round Of 16

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have qualified for the round of 16 at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup after beating Ecuador 3-2 in their second match, Tuesday. Ibrahim Sa’id put the Nigerians ahead just five minutes into the game following an error from the Ecuadorian defense.
