Court Takes Decision On Maina’s Bail Application

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has refused to rule on the bail application filed by the former Chairman of defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.

Justice Abang who said the ruling would be made known at the close of work, attributed the reason to the heavy workload on the court.

He said: “On account of the heavy workload on this honourable court, the court shall reserve ruling on the bail application.

“The ruling is not ready. The court will give another date at the close of work today.”

JNJGLOBALGIST.COM reports that Maina was on Thursday wheeled into Court 6, where his bail application was expected to be taken.

The former Pension boss was dressed in light green colour caftan.

Recall that EFCC charged Maina with 12 counts bordering on “money laundering, operating fictitious bank accounts and fraud.”

However, Maina pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The EFCC in 2017, declared Maina wanted, following his refusal to honour the commission’s invitations.

Although top government officials tried to smuggle him into the country and attempted to reinstate him to office, the process backfired.

The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari , Abba Kyari and former Head of Service, Winifred Oyo-Ita, had reportedly clashed over the leaking of a memo which revealed that Buhari was aware of the move to reinstate the former pension boss.

Maina, who has been on the run from the Nigerian government, was arrested at a hotel in Abuja after he sneaked into the country from his Dubai, United Arab Emirates base.
