Governor Abiodun accused of instigating redeployment of CP Imohimi over vendetta

There are rumours making the rounds that the Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, is responsible for the redeployment of police commissioner Edgal Imohimi, one week after he was posted to the state.

JNJGLOBALGIST.COM reported on Sunday that barely a week after he resumed duty in Ogun State, Imohimi, was transferred to Akwa Ibom State.

According to reports, Gov Abiodun is not pleased with Imohimi over the manner he handled the sudden death of his son, Olugbenga Abiodun, when he (Imohimi) was the Lagos State Commissioner of Police in 2017.

Olugbenga Abiodun, 25, popularly known as DJ Olu, and one Chime Amaechi, said to be a crew member of an ace artiste, Davido, were found dead on Saturday, October 7, 2017, in a BMW car in a garage on Block B, Banana Island, Lagos.

The death of DJ Olu had sparked suspicions as his parents and family members believed his death was not ‘natural’.

But Imohimi, while still awaiting the report of the autopsy, had concluded that Olugbenga died of drug abuse; a statement his parents were not pleased with.

Years after, it is alleged that Gov Abiodun immediately requested the redeployment of Imohimi following his appointment to the state as police commissioner.

JNJGLOBALGIST.COM gathered that Imohimi has been redeployed to Akwa Ibom State to replace Kenneth Ebrimson, who is expected to resume as the CP in Ogun State.

A police source, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that “police officers in Ogun State were jubilating when news broke out that Imohimi is no longer the CP of the command.”

He confided in exclusively that “Imohimi would have turned the entire Ogun police command upside-down if he had been allowed to stay few months in the state.”

Recall that Imohimi, less than 24 hours after he took charge of Ogun police command, ordered the officers in the state to resume to their original duty posts for a headcount, while also ordering those on leave to resume work immediately.

He also set up a complaint call centre with 10 hotlines through which the public can report any officer demanding money from them under any guise.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abiodun, Kunle Somorin, said the redeployment of Imohimi was news to him as he was on the verge of arranging a meeting between the Governor and the new police boss (Imohimi) through the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

The Force Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba also confirmed the redeployment, adding that there was no political colouration to the action of the police but that it was purely an operational need.

“As far as the police is concerned, posting or deployment of senior police officers is not predicated on political considerations or any form of primordial sentiments.

“Posting is essentially a function of operational need and in this instant case, the redeployment of the officer is purely a routine and operational decision.” Frank maintained.
