Jigawa Govt drags six food adulterators to court





The Jigawa State Consumer Protection Committee has seized bags of adulterated food and charged their owners to court for trial.

Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Farouk Abdallah, disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital on Thursday.

He explained that the committee has arrested six persons with about twenty adulterated sesame in different markets across the state.

Farouk said the suspects were dragged to court and have been sanctioned according to the law.

“Four bags of adulterated commodity belonging to one Adamu Mamman at Babura were confiscated and he was charged to court and fined fifty thousand naira and the commodity was seized.

“One Abubakar Muhammad and Hassan Ibrahim were also arrested with six bags of adulterated sesame and the suspects had abandoned the commodity and ran away in the process of investigation.

“Another two and half bags of adulterated sesame were also intercepted from one Saminu Ibrahim Dan Budu and was fined fifty thousand naira by a mobile court,” Farouk stated.

” Also, one Aunty Ladin Kani was arrested with five bags of adulterated sesame and also fined fifty thousand naira by the court.”

Farouk said the state government has reviewed the law of adulteration with fine of one hundred thousand naira or a term of three years imprisonment.

JNJGLOBALGIST.COM reported that Jigawa State Government has constituted a mobile court to try those involved in adulteration of food and drink in the state.

The establishment of the court was part of the state government’s policy on protecting the interest of consumers by ensuring value for money.
