Nigerians React On Twitter As Sanwo-Olu Drops ‘Your Excellency’ Title

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu , has asked the residents of the state and the general populace to start addressing him as Mr. Governor and not your excellency.

The Governor who made this statement after about 155 days at the helms of affairs in Lagos State, asked residents to stop addressing him as ‘Your Excellency’ because the Almighty, the Creator, the Protector” is the most excellent, and that no man can share his eternal qualities.

Speaking further, Mr. Sanwo-Olu said his performance as the governor in the past five months does not reflect the office he occupies which is celebrated as the paragon of excellence, a temple of perfection and a throne of purity.

He also said that his new title as ‘Mr. Governor’ will help to foster close ties with the people of Lagos.

Meanwhile, several Nigerians have reacted to the action of Mr. Babajide Sanwo Olu as he prefers to be called Mr. Governor. According to some Nigerians the nomenclature your excellency is not a requirement for governance.

Here are the reactions as follows:

Good evening Lagos. Your Excellency is a nice title that has been used to signify authority, position in government, authoritarian disposition, executive arrogance, and a demi-god mystique. Today, I wish to drop the title and to embrace a more representative one; Mr. Governor

Fashola was called His Excellency, I doubt that any Governor has made as much impact as he has. The one that called himself Ogbeni Omoluabi left his state in penury & tears. Campaigns are over, please drop this comedy show & show working.

Calling Sanwo-Olu “Your Excellency” is the reason he has been missing in governance since May 29. You people should please start calling him what he wants, maybe your roads will finally receive his attention.

Mr Governor Sir, we really didn't mind addressing you as "your excellency".

Even if you wanted us to address you as "your grace", we would've.

Just fix the damn roads. twitter.com/jidesanwoolu/s…
