Steve Braithwaite was driving a banana car when Michigan State Police pulled him over.

The following encounter was bananas.

Trooper Bill Strouse pulled the gigantic banana over and checked the headlights, brake lights and taillights.

Braithwaite has been driving the colossal contraption on wheels for years, offering pay-what-you-can rides to cover his travel expenses, The Washington Post reported.

The back of his vehicle says, "I'm driving the big banana car across America" and includes details on how he couch surfs.

State police said Friday that Strouse, who was just months from retirement when it happened, returned Braithwaite's driver's license with a $20 bill for his travels.
