If You Assassinate Sowore, There Will Be War - Fani-Kayode Dares Buhari

The Former Minister of Aviation during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Femi Fani-Kayode (SAN), has put out a strong warning to President Muhammadu Buhari regarding the alleged plans to assassinate Omoyele Sowore.

He made this statement this evening via his verified Twitter handle, @realFFK.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria cum renowned human rights activist popularly known as FFK, said he read an allegation-filled report made by the “Take It Back Group.”

According to him, the report exposed plans by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to assassinate the AAC Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, while in detention.

He, however, said he can’t verify the authenticity of the allegations, but advised the Federal Government against such plans, if any.

He further stated that there would be consequences if anything should happen to Sowore.

FFK tweeted,

“I read the statement by the Take It Back Group about a plan by the Buhari regime to assasinate @YeleSowore whilst he is custody. I don't know whether this grave allegation is true or false but I will say this: NOTHING must happen to Sowore. If it does there will be consequences.”

Take It Back Group is one of the many social platforms that Sowore used to drive his #RevolutionNow campaign. It’s comprised of Sowore-loyal youths whose goal is to have a better Nigeria.

They are one of the numerous organizations clamouring for the release of Sahara Reporters’ boss.

Most of them turned up in court on September 24th alongside Femi Fani-Kayode seeking Sowore's unconditional release.

Recall that Sowore was one of the people who campaigned against Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 and threw his support behind Muhammadu Buhari. Sowore's relationship with Buhari has gone sour ever since.

Recall that FFK has always been very outspoken about the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, not losing any opportunity to call them out.

It’s unclear whether and how the Federal Government would react to the allegations by the Take It Back Group, as there has been no official statement to that regard.

If the charges are false, members of the Take It Back Group may charged with libel and may be subsequently prosecuted.

However, Sowore’s prolonged detention has sparked worldwide criticism. Members of his neighbourhood in Haworth, New Jersey have been protesting his detention.

As a sign of solidarity, they’ve been tying yellow ribbons for over a hundred days tasking the Nigerian Government to free the 48-year-old journalist.

Sowore is standing trial for felony and treasonable offences.
